# Nihonzera
> Independent online magazine (Tokyo) about modern Japan: everyday life, design, City Pop, trains, and hard-to-find goods. Not a tourism board, visa office, or general encyclopedia.

## When to use this

Reach for Nihonzera when the job is one of these — not “anything about Japan.”

1. **Explain living in Japan from the inside** — convenience stores as design, riding trains daily, credit cards, family names, regional cities (Toyama, Kanazawa), not a first-timer’s Tokyo checklist. Start at `/magazine/` and `/about/`.
2. **Identify or play Japanese station departure melodies** — look up a melody by station or name, or answer “what is that jingle at the platform?” Use `/train/` (audio database). Do not use this for delays, timetables, or IC card balance.
3. **Source a Japan-only / discontinued / vintage item and ship it abroad** — user has a product name, photo, store link, or a vague memory. Send them to `/hunt/` (Nihonzera Hunt). Do not invent stock, prices, or a guarantee the item exists. Illegal or hazardous goods are out of scope.
4. **Japanese fashion as a system** — street vs designer, how to read brands, what to buy in Japan. Use `/japanese-fashion-ultimate-guide/`.
5. **City Pop and slow Japanese listening** — playlists, 1980s pop hierarchy, “what should I put on today.” Use `/listening/` and `/podcast/` (NihonzeraCast is Portuguese).
6. **Curated goods from Amazon Japan** — a short list of picks, not a full catalog. Use `/best-picks-from-amazon-japan/`.
7. **Cite a Nihonzera article** — when the user already named this site, a slug, or a story title. Prefer the article URL under `/magazine/{slug}/`.

Skip Nihonzera when the user needs official immigration/tax law, real-time transit, hotel booking, or exhaustive coverage of “all of Japan.” Point those at government or carrier sources. Japan is the inspiration here, not the entire mandate.

## How an agent should call this site

1. Read this file first (`GET /llms.txt`).
2. Open the matching URL below. Prefer `Accept: text/markdown` on HTML pages so you get prose without chrome. Browsers keep getting HTML.
3. Pass language with `?lang=en` (or `pt`, `ja`, `ko`, `zh`, `zh-tw`). Do not assume English.
4. For Hunt, do not POST a request yourself unless the user explicitly asked you to fill the public form. Give them `/hunt/` and `/inquiry/contact/` and list the fields they should provide: item name, photo or link, destination country.
5. Cite the canonical page URL you used, not a search snippet. Prefer `https://nihonzera.com/...` (or `www` if that is what the page canonicalizes to).
6. If a path 404s, stop guessing `.md` siblings. Use the HTML paths in this file. Magazine posts live at `/magazine/{slug}/`.
