About

Who we are

Nihonzera is a web magazine designed to bridge Japan with the world by offering articles, music, art, podcasts, interviews, and tutorials. We provide a glimpse into Japanese culture, arts, and nostalgia. Initiated in 2019 by Nihon, this platform captures a Brazilian's perspective on life in Japan.

Nihon, the founder, is a Brazilian expat living in Japan since 2014. With a background in technology, Nihon started Nihonzera to share personal experiences and discoveries about Japan's vibrant culture—from the nostalgic sounds of City Pop to the intricacies of daily life in Tokyo. Passionate about blending Brazilian enthusiasm with Japanese precision, Nihon aims to make Japanese culture accessible and fun for a global audience.

Since launch, Nihonzera has grown to include interactive features like our Japanese train melody database and Radio Nihon podcasts, reaching enthusiasts over many countries.

Why Nihonzera?

The name "Nihonzera" (ニホンゼラ) is born from the fusion of two words with distinct meanings. "Nihon" (ほん) is the Japanese word for "Japan". The suffix "zera", common in Brazilian colloquial language, is used to denote exaggeration or abundance. Thus, "Nihonzera" conveys a wealth of content and passion related to Japan.
